SKUs and packaging
Build a catalog of sellable SKUs and record the packaged lots you produce from your batches.
Once you're selling what you make, a SKU is a sellable combination of a recipe, a package, and a label — your six-pack of IPA, your 750 ml bottle of gin. Packaging records the actual lots you produce against those SKUs, tracing each one back to the batch stage it came from.
Commercial plan. SKUs and packaging are part of Sales & distribution, which is available on commercial workspaces. On a hobby workspace these screens are read-only and show an upgrade panel (Sales & distribution is a commercial feature) explaining that SKUs, packaging, orders, and distributor depletions unlock once you go commercial. The rest of this page describes what you'll see on a commercial workspace.
Both screens live in the Sales group in the left-hand navigation.
SKUs
View your SKU catalog
- In the navigation, choose SKUs. The list shows each SKU's Name, Package, and COLA reference.
- Narrow the list with the controls above the table:
- Search — the Search SKUs by name… box.
- Package — All, Can, Bottle, Keg, Crowler, or Cask.
- Choose Edit on a row to open a SKU.
- Choose Load more to fetch the next page if there is one.
An empty catalog shows No SKUs yet with an Add SKU button.
Add a SKU
- From the SKUs list, choose Add SKU (top right). The heading reads Add SKU.
- Under SKU details, fill in:
- Name (required) — for example, Hopfen IPA — 6-pack.
- Recipe — link this SKU to one of your recipes, or leave it Not linked. (You can still save without a recipe.)
- Package format — Unspecified, Can, Bottle, Keg, Crowler, or Cask.
- Package size — the size number (for example, 750).
- Package unit — the unit for that size (for example, ml).
- COLA reference — your TTB COLA ID, if you have one (optional).
- Choose Add SKU to save. Use Back to list to return without saving.
Edit a SKU
- From the SKUs list, choose Edit on the SKU's row. The heading reads Edit SKU.
- Change any of the SKU details fields and choose Save SKU.
If you have read-only access, the form tells you so and an admin needs to make the change.
Packaging
Packaging records a packaged lot — a run of units of one SKU, drawn from a specific stage of a specific batch.
View your packaged lots
- In the navigation, choose Packaging. The list shows each lot's Lot code, its SKU, the number of Units, when it was Packaged, and its Status (pending, released, held, or recalled).
- Use the Search lots by lot code… box to narrow the list.
- Choose Load more to fetch the next page if there is one.
An empty list shows No packaged lots yet with a Package a lot button.
Record a packaged lot
Prerequisites: at least one SKU (above), and a batch with at least one stage to package from (see Run a batch through its stages).
- From the Packaging list, choose Package a lot (top right). The heading reads Package a lot.
- Under Packaged lot, fill in:
- SKU (required) — pick the SKU you're packaging.
- Source batch (required) — pick the batch this comes from.
- Source stage (required) — pick the stage of that batch the lot is drawn from. This stays disabled until you've chosen a batch; if the batch has no stages yet, you'll be told a lot must come from a stage.
- Lot code (required) — for example, LOT-2026-0042.
- Unit count (required) — a whole number of units greater than zero (for example, 240).
- Packaged date (required) — defaults to today.
- Choose Package lot to save (or Cancel to go back). Use Back to list to return at any time.
If you have read-only access, the form tells you so (You have read-only access to packaging. An admin can record packaged lots.) and an admin needs to record the lot.
