Workspace settings and theme

Workspace settings is where you name your workspace, set its public handle, choose your measurement units, and pick a theme. These settings belong to the whole workspace, not to you personally — your own profile lives on the Account page instead.

Open it from Settings in the Settings group of the left-hand navigation. The page opens on Workspace settings with your workspace's name shown beneath the heading.

Changing these settings needs the workspace-settings permission (Owner or Admin). If you don't have it, the fields are shown read-only with the note You have read-only access to workspace settings. An admin can change these. — ask a workspace admin to make the change.

Edit your workspace details

1. In the navigation, choose Settings.
2. Under Workspace details, update any of:
   • Workspace name — the name shown across Brewstiller (for example, Garage Brewery). It can't be empty.
   • Public handle — your public Story Page address. Use 1–63 characters: lowercase letters, digits, and hyphens (no leading hyphen). See the caution below before changing a handle that's already in use.
   • Home state / region — for example, UT. On a hobby workspace it helps set the local dates on your public Story Page when no time zone is set; on a commercial workspace it drives state-aware compliance defaults. Leave it blank to clear it.
   • Time zone — an IANA name such as America/Denver or Europe/London. Dates on your public story pages are shown in this zone, so an evening tasting reads as the evening you logged it, not the next day somewhere else. Leave it blank to clear it; while it's blank and you can edit the field, a Use this device's time zone (…) button offers to fill in the zone your own browser is set to. A value Brewstiller doesn't recognize shows Not a time zone we recognise. Use an IANA name such as "America/Denver" or "Europe/London." instead of being saved.
   • Measurement units — choose US customary (lb, °F, gal) or Metric (kg, °C, L). Quantities shown around Brewstiller — your lot amounts, recipe ingredient amounts, and batch input/output volumes — are displayed in the system you pick here, converting from however a value was originally entered. A value already in your chosen system is shown exactly as it was entered (never re-rounded). Regulatory figures such as proof and proof gallons always stay in their required units, whichever system you choose.
3. Choose Save changes. A confirmation appears and the page reloads the saved values.

If someone else changed these settings while you had the page open, saving shows These settings changed elsewhere. and reloads the latest values — review them and save again.

Change your public handle

Your public handle is the address people use to reach your published story pages, so changing it is treated with care: the old handle is retired permanently — it redirects to the new one and can never be reused.

1. Under Workspace details, edit the Public handle field to the new handle.
2. Choose Save changes. Because the handle changed, Brewstiller shows a confirmation explaining that your old address will permanently redirect and can't be reused.
3. Choose Confirm handle change to apply it, or Cancel to keep the current handle.

On success you'll see Workspace handle changed. with a note that your previous address now redirects to the new one. If the handle you chose is already taken — including a handle that was retired earlier — Brewstiller shows That handle is already in use. and nothing changes; pick a different one.

Choose a theme

The theme sets the accent colors used across your workspace.

1. In the navigation, choose Settings.
2. Under Theme, choose a theme from the picker. The accents update immediately as a preview so you can see the change before committing to it.
3. Choose Save changes to keep the selected theme. If you leave the page without saving, the preview reverts to your saved theme.

If the theme options can't be loaded, the picker is shown read-only with a note explaining the theme catalog is unavailable; reload the page to try again.

Show or hide a production type

Under Production types, below Currently available, a Show or hide a type list gives each type your workspace can record (Brewing, Winemaking, Distilling) its own switch, labelled Shown when it's on and Hidden when it's off. Hiding a type only changes what you see in the navigation and the Tools hub — it's your own display preference, not a workspace setting, so teammates see their own. Nothing you've recorded is affected, and you can show the type again anytime. Anyone can use these switches, whatever their role.

1. In the navigation, choose Settings, and find Production types.
2. Under Show or hide a type, flip the switch beside the type. The change takes effect straight away — there's no Save changes step — and the label beside the switch changes between Shown and Hidden.
3. To bring a hidden type back, return to the same list and flip its switch to Shown.

At least one type has to stay visible: the switch on your only remaining shown type is greyed out, and if a change is refused anyway you'll see At least one production type must stay visible. A workspace with a single production type therefore has its one switch greyed out.

Add a production type

Below Workspace settings' other cards sits Production types — what this workspace makes. Brewstiller uses it to decide which recipes, batches, and equipment to offer you; it's what you set under What will you make? when you created the workspace.

1. In the navigation, choose Settings. Under Production types, Currently available lists what the workspace can already record — a badge per type (Brewing, Winemaking, Distilling), or, once every type is available, a line saying so.
2. If you've taken up another trade, a Taken up another trade? Add it here section lists the types you don't have yet, each with a short description (for example, Distilling — "Spirits — whiskey, gin, rum, brandy."). Tick the ones that apply.
3. Choose Add production type.

Production types can only be added, never removed — so a recipe or batch you record under one will always have a home. There's no way to undo adding one here; think of it as widening what the workspace can do, not switching what it's set up for.

If there's nothing left to add, the card just shows what you already have. If you don't have permission to change workspace settings, it tells you to ask a workspace owner or admin to add another production type instead.
